Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi (Karuizawa, JPN) won 9-4 over Marina Oiwa (Miyota, JPN) in the Final of the WCT Kurosawa Cup, held January 12 - 14, 2019 in Miyota, Japan. To advance to the championship game, Yamaguchi won 9-1 over Kenji Komoda (Sagamihara, JPN) in the semifinals
Yamaguchi finished 5-0 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Yamaguchi defeated Yuhei Kusui (Osaka, JPN) 8-4, then won 10-4 against Asuka Kanai (Karuizwaw, JPN) and 10-1 against Yumiko Kashiwagi (Karuizawa, JPN). Yamaguchi won 7-3 against Kota Onodera (Hokkaido, JPN), then won 8-4 against Tomoji Arai (Tokyo, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the WCT Kurosawa Cup Championship title, Yamaguchi earned 8.598 world rankings points along with the $2,428CDN first prize cheque. Yamaguchi move up 26 spots after posting a net gain of 5.466 points improving upon their best 8 results so far this season, ranking 147th overall with 25.325 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Yamaguchi ranks 163rd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 19.061 points earned so far this season.
