Yuan went on to lose 7-3 against Sergei Glukhov (Sochi, RUS). Yuan responded with a 5-4 win over Jan Hess (Zug, SUI). Yuan won 7-5 against Daniel Magnusson (Karlstad, SWE) in their final qualifying round match.

Yuan earned 5.586 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins, moving up 27 spots the World Ranking Standings into 160th place overall with 22.471 total points. Yuan ranks 131st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 22.471 points earned so far this season.
