Matsumura finished 3-1 in the 21-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Matsumura defeated Jan Hess (Zug, SUI) 8-3, then won 9-4 against Pierre-Luc Morissette (Saguenay, QC). Matsumura went on to lose 5-2 against Rich Ruohonen (Chaska, USA). Matsumura responded with a 8-2 win over Tanner Horgan (Sudbury, NONT) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Oakville Fall Classic Championship title, Matsumura earned 42.030 world rankings points along with the $3,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 30 spots the World Ranking Standings into 28th place overall with 101.578 total points. Matsumura ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 52.788 points earned so far this season.
