In their opening game, Ulsrud defeated Lucien Lottenbach (Luzern, SUI) 8-3, then won 7-3 against Joel Retornaz (Trentino, ITA) and 5-2 against Yves Hess (Zurich, SUI). Ulsrud won 6-5 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
