Howard finished 5-0 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Howard defeated Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) 6-1, then won 6-1 against Chris Gardner (Ottawa, ON) and 6-1 against Mark Kean (Stoney Creek, ON). Howard won 6-2 against Guy Hemmings (Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, QC), then won 4-0 against Edin in their final qualifying round match.
