McEwen finished 2-3 in the 12-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated David Murdoch (Stirling, SCO) 7-6, then went on to lose 7-1 against Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK). McEwen lost 5-4 to Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) where McEwen responded with a 6-3 win over John Shuster (Duluth, USA). McEwen went on to lose 6-3 against John Epping (Toronto, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
