Norma O'Leary (Duluth, MN) finished 7-2 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, O'Leary defeated Eleanor Robertson (Portland, OR) 19-1, then won 10-3 against Pam Wilson (Chicago, IL) and 10-4 against Sarah Walsh (San Francisco, CA). O'Leary went on to lose 6-3 against Beth Bohlman (Grand Forks, ND). O'Leary responded with a 8-7 win over Nicole Reiser (Bismarck, ND). O'Leary won 11-0 against Janice Langanke (Plainfield, NJ), then won 12-1 against Brenda Mason (Midland, MI) and 7-6 against Lori Karst (Madison, WI). O'Leary went on to lose 7-6 against Em Good (Seattle, WA) in their final qualifying round match.
