To advance to the championship game, Howard won 6-3 over Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) in the semifinals of the 2013 Players' Championship in Toronto, Ontario; and won 7-6 over Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in the quarterfinals.
 
Howard finished 4-0 in the 15-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Howard defeated Mark Kean (Toronto, ON) 5-4, then won 4-2 against Greg Balsdon (Toronto, ON) and 5-4 against Gushue. Howard won 5-3 against McEwen in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Players' Championship Championship title, Howard earned 45.000 world rankings points along with the $26,000CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 30 after improving upon their best so far this season. Howard ranks 2nd overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 233.530 points earned so far this season.
