Al Hackner (Thunder Bay, NONT) won 7-5 over Craig Kochan (Kapuskasing, ON) in the Final of the Courtesy Freight Northern Ontario Superspiel, held November 9 - 11, 2012 at the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay, Canada. To advance to the championship game, Hackner won 5-4 over Gary Weiss (Thunder Bay, ON) in the semifinals of the 2012 Courtesy Freight Northern Ontario Superspiel in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; and won 6-3 over Art Lappalainen (Thunder Bay, NONT) in the quarterfinals. of the 2012 Courtesy Freight Northern Ontario Superspiel in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada;
Hackner finished 4-1 in the 24-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hackner defeated Manitoba's Kyle Foster 6-5, then won 9-3 against Wisconsin's Ryan Lemke. Hackner went on to lose 5-2 against Jeff Currie (Thunder Bay, ON). Hackner responded with a 7-2 win over Kurtis Byrd (Thunder Bay, ON). Hackner won 5-4 against Evan Jensen (St. Paul, MN) in their final qualifying round match.
For winning the Courtesy Freight Northern Ontario Superspiel Championship title, Hackner earned 3.750 world rankings points along with the $5,160CDN first prize cheque, moving up 12 spots the World Ranking Standings into 99th place overall with 13.185 total points. Hackner ranks 75th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 7.250 points earned so far this season.
