Martin finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Martin defeated Matt Lang (Saskatoon, SK) 6-2, then won 5-1 against Alexey Tselousov (Moscow, RUS) and 5-4 against Brock Virtue (Calgary, AB). Martin went on to lose 4-3 against Rob Fowler (Brandon, MB). Martin responded with a 7-6 win over Steve Laycock (Saskatoon, SK).
