Switzerland's Thomas Lips finished 3-1 in the 0-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Switzerland's Thomas Lips lost 7-5 to Switzerland's Claudio Pescia, then responded with a 8-2 win over Jiri Snitil (Prague, CZE). Switzerland's Thomas Lips won 6-5 against David Murdoch (Lockerbie, SCO), then won 8-2 against Aleksandr Kirikov (Moscow, RUS) in their final qualifying round match.
