In their opening game, Simmons defeated Randy Ferbey (St. Johns, NL) 6-5, then won 6-5 against Mark Bice (Sarnia, ON) and 8-7 against Bob Ursel (Vernon, BC). Simmons went on to lose 6-4 against Glenn Howard (Coldwater, ON). Simmons responded with a 6-3 win over Don Walchuk (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Simmons earned 18.000 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the BDO Canadian Open.
