Bob Ursel (Kelowna, BC) finished 1-4 in the 18-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Ursel lost 8-3 to Greg McAulay (Richmond, BC), droppimg another game, 6-4 to Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) where Ursel responded with a 7-6 win over Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO). Ursel went on to lose 7-4 against Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL). Ursel lost 8-5 to Kevin Martin (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.

Ursel earned 3.000 world rankings points for their preliminary round wins. For week of the event schedule, Ursel did not improve upon their best events, remaining at th place on the World Ranking Standings with total points. Ursel ranks th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with points earned so far this season.
