![]() For the first time since their Brier victory in 2017, Brad Gushue (photo: Anil Mungal, GSOC) is hosting the curling world this week in St. John's. Gushue with Mark Nichols at third, Brendan Bottcher and Geoff Walker on the front end will be fan favourites this week, where several draws are reportedly sold out already. Previously known as Mile One Centre, now titled after another St. John's, Newfoundland success in Mary Brown's. Capacity inside the Mary Brown's Centre is now listed as 6,000, making for the potential for an extra special week as Gushue and his team get underway. Gushue opens play Tuesday at 3 pm Newfoundland Time against Germany's Marc Muskatewitz, making their Grand Slam debut after winning the Le Gruyere European Championships last weekend in Finland. Teams play one game per day in the round-robin, with Gushue facing Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers on Wednesday at 3pm NT and the plays Saskatoon's Mike McEwen at 8pm on Thursday. Gushue finishes round-robin play on Friday at 8pm against Switzerland's Marco Hoesli, in a draw that is already sold-out. In 2005, Mile One Centre sold out for the final of the Players' Championships, where a young Gushue and Nichols faced Kevin Martin.
