Extra End Win For Epping


John Epping (Sudbury) held on to defeat Winnipeg's Jordan McDonald 5-4 in an extra end to reach the final of the Red Deer Curling Classic.

Epping with Jake Horgan at third, Tanner Horgan and Ian McMillan on the front end, is set to play Winnipeg's Matt Dunstone in the final of the Red Deer Curling Classic.

In the other semifinal match, Dunstone defeated Korey Dropkin of the United States 7-4.

In the quarterfinals, Epping defeated Braden Calvert (Winnipeg) 5-2, McDonald defeated Rylan Kleiter (Saskatoon) 6-4, while Dropkin defeated Cameron Bryce (Norder, Scotland) 5-1, and Dunstone defeated Daniel Casper (Chaska, MN) 4-2.

Epping finished 5-2 in the 28-team qualifying round. Epping defeated Johnson Tao (Edmonton) 6-4 in their opening game, then won 6-2 against Riku Yanagisawa (Karuizawa, Japan).

Epping lost 5-4 against Dropkin, dropping into the B-event, where they responded with an 8-2 win over Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, Japan). Epping won 6-5 against Casper to advance to a B-Qualifier game, where they lost 8-3 against Dunstone, dropping into a C-Qualifier game.

Epping responded with a 7-3 win over Thomas Scoffin (Whitehorse, YK) to advance to the playoff round.

They are 0-2 against Dunstone so far this season, having faced off in both the Henderson Metal Fall Classic and earlier in this event.

Dunstone will start with the hammer due to qualifying through the B-event.

Epping looks to add a third event title this season, winning the KW Fall Classic and the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard.

The final goes at 3:30 pm Mountain Time (MT).
