Gushue Finishes Fourth at Pan Continental Championships

Brad Gushue (photo: Michael Burns/Curling Canada) on ice with new lineup, finishes fourth at 2024 Pan Continental Championships in Lacombe, Alberta.

Brad Gushue lost the bronze medal game to USA's John Shuster Friday afternoon to finish in fourth place at the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championships.

By Meredith McCullum

A difficult result for Brad Gushue, who is the two time reigning champion of the event. His squad started out the week undefeated through round robin before two tough losses to Japan in the semifinal and then USA in the bronze medal game put them in fourth place to end the week.

The event served as a chance for Gushue to debut his new lineup on an international stage ahead of the next Grand Slam event. Brendan Bottcher, formerly a skip of his own rink in Alberta, came in to fill in the gap at second when E.J. Harnden parted ways with the team mid October. Geoff Walker and Mark Nichols remain at lead and third respectively.

Though the results are not what they wanted, Gushue's rink looked strong through much of the week and will take lessons away from the event as they get used to playing together. They will look to improve throughout the rest of the season leading up to the Brier in March 2025 where they will be team Canada.

The mens Pan Continental Championships will wrap up Saturday at 10am MST as Japan's Shinya Abe takes on China's Xiaoming Xu in the gold medal final. The game can be streamed at curlingchannel.tv and scores will be updated at curlingzone.com.
