Taking place at the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg, colloquially known as the Mother Club, the event featured 20 women's teams split into pools of 5. Ueno, with teammates Asuka Kanai at third, Junko Nishimura, and Yui Ueno on the front end, claimed their first-ever Tour title, claiming the 30 world ranking points for the win. The reigning Japanese national champions improved to 25th overall on the World Curling Team Rankings. McCarville took home 22 world ranking points for her second-place finish. After a blank in the first end, McCarville stole a point in the second to take an early lead. Ueno quickly responded, scoring 2 in the third end and adding a steal in the fourth. McCarville settled for a single point in the fifth, trailing 3-2. Ueno then sealed her victory by scoring 3 in the sixth end, wrapping up a 6-2 win. In the semifinals, Ueno defeated Delaney Strouse (Traverse City, Michigan) 7-1, while McCarville beat Japan's Yuina Miura 5-3. Both Strouse and Miura earned 17 world-ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, McCarville defeated Winnipeg's Chelsea Carey 8-3, Miura overcame Tabitha Peterson of Chaska, Minnesota 6-3, Strouse edged out Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa 5-4, and Ueno won a tight match against Winnipeg's Zoey Terrick 6-5 in an extra end. Ueno finished the 18-team qualifying round with a flawless 4-0 record in pool play. Ueno opened with a 6-1 victory over Gabrielle Coleman (Oakland, California), followed by a 5-2 win against Rachel Kaatz (Winnipeg), a 6-5 victory over Lisa McLeod (Winnipeg), and capped off her round with a 6-0 win over Strouse. |
