Hasselborg Wins Europeans Qualifier

Anna Hasselborg will represent Sweden at the Le Gruyere European Curling Championships in November.

Hasselborg, with Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer and Sofia Mabergs, swept the best-of-seven series with Isabella Wrana, winning four straight to earn the right.

Hasselborg won 7-2 in game 4 to clinch the series win Saturday morning at the Sundbyberg Curling Club, on the outskirts of Stockholm.

The team is supported by fifth player Johanna Heldin and coach Kristian Lindstroem.

Both teams also represent the Sundbyberg Curling Club on the competitive Tour.

Hasselborg has been the reigning force for women's curling in Sweden since 2017, with their breakout coming after winning Gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Hasselborg has won 7 grand slam titles since, while that elusive World Championship title remains to be fulfilled.

Silver medals in 2018 in North Bay and 2019 in Silkeborg are the team's best finishes.

As is usual in competitive sport, the next generation continues to develop, with Isabella Wrana and her team of Almida de Val, Maria Larsson and Linda Stenlund banging on the door.

Wrana also ranks in the Top 10 on the World Curling Team Rankings, giving Sweden two world championship contenders.

With multiple teams strong enough to carry the Swedish colours on the International stage, a best-of-seven series has been played between these contenders.

Wrana won last year's best-of-seven series four games to 3, their first breakthrough against Hasselborg's crown.

Wrana finished 6-3 in the round-robin in Aberdeen, Scotland, losing both playoff games to finish in fourth place.

Hasselborg won the opening game on Thursday, 10-5, then won twice on Friday, taking a 4-3 decision in the morning and winning 8-6 in the afternoon.

All games were streamed through the Svensk Curling YouTube channel, with links available on CurlingZone's Scoreboard to each game.

The Swedish women's representative at the World Curling Championships has been determined by a points chase throughout the season.
