Gushue Carries Canadian Men's Hopes in Oakville


Brad Gushue (photo: Stan Fong, Hardline) of St John's advanced to Monday's 8-team championship bracket undefeated.

Gushue, with Mark Nichols, E.J. Harden and Geoff Walker won 10-1 over Scotland's Ross Whyte in Saturday's A-Qualifier game to book their place into playoffs.

Gushue is set to face Japan's Riku Yanagisawa, advancing to the playoffs with a 6-5 win over James Craik of Scotland in Sunday evening's C-Qualifiers.

On the same half of the bracket, Scotland's Bruce Mouat plays Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland.

Marco Hoesli of Switzerland takes on Xiao-Ming Xu of China and Marc Muskatewitz of Germany plays Korey Dropkin of Duluth, Minnesota.

Gushue opened with a 7-1 win over Mark Kean of Woodstock then won 6-2 over Muskatewitz to set up the qualifying game.
