Homan/Bottcher Win Sutherland Doubles

Brendan Bottcher and Rachel Homan (photo: BottcherCurling) won their debut together in Mixed Doubles in Saskatoon.

Homan/Bottcher won 8-2 over Shelby and Grady Lamontagne of Saskatoon in Sunday's Final at the Sutherland Curling Club in Saskatoon, scoring three in the opening end, two in the third end and three more in the fifth end for an early concession.

Homan/Bottcher on 6-4 over Jill and Garret Springer of Regina in the Sunday morning's semifinals, while the Lamontagnes won 9-7 over Sherry Just and Kyle Cherpin of Prince Albert.

Bottcher and Homan's newly expanded curling relationship intertwined coaching and competition commitments.

Bottcher has taken on a full-time role as coach of Team Homan, Rachel's four-player squad, following up on a brilliant season with Don Bartlett in guidance.

Bottcher was seen as offering insights to Homan in the past, and with offseason changes and time off from four-player competition, the opportunity to coach and compete in Mixed Doubles seemed like a natural move.

The pair opened their season Friday at the on the Sask Curling Tour at the Sutherland Curling Club in Saskatoon where 8 teams split into pools of four.

Bottcher/Homan won their opening game 8-6 over Shawna Simpson and Tyler Derksen of Saskatoon, then won 6-4 over Hannah Rugg and Carter Parenteau of Regina.

In their final round-robin game on Saturday, Homan/Bottcher won 8-2 over Sherry Just and Kyle Cherpin of Prince Albert.
