Candace Chisholm wins Medicine Hat Charity Classic
![]() Candace Chisholm (Weyburn, SK) wins the Medicine Hat Charity Classic, defeating Penny Barker (Moose Jaw, SK) 8-2 at the Medicine Hat Curling Club in Medicine Hat, Canada. Chisholm with Lana Vey at third with Natalie Bloomfield and Kristy Johnson on the front end take home the $5,500CDN first place cheque along with 23.983 world ranking points, while Barker receives $3,500CDN and 18.844 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Chisholm scored 1 in the first end, then added a steal of 4 in the second end. Barker scored 2 in the third end, with Chisholm responding in the fourth end scoring 3 for the 8-2 win. In the semifinals, Chisholm defeated Jodi Marthaller (Calgary, AB) 5-1 and Barker defeated Glenys Bakker (Calgary, AB) 6-2. Marthaller and Bakker earned $2,500CDN and 14.561 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Chisholm defeated Jessie Hunkin (Edmonton, AB) 6-3, Barker defeated Kayla Skrlik (Calgary, AB) 5-4 in an extra end, while Marthaller defeated Daria Morozova (Moscow, Russia) 5-3 and Bakker defeated Shannon Kleibrink (Calgary, AB) 4-3. Kleibrink, Skrlik, Hunkin and Morozova earned $1,500CDN along with 10.279 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Chisholm went 3-1 in the 16 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Chisholm defeated Skrlik 5-4, losing their next game to Kleibrink 6-4, bouncing back with a 5-2 win over Teryn Hamilton (Calgary, AB). Chisholm won against Anastasiia Danshina (Moscow, Russia) 7-5 in their B-Qualifier match to advance to the playoff round. |
