Taylor Reese-Hansen faces Gracelyn Richards (photo: Curling Canada) in the final as the U25 NextGen Classic fours action wraps up.

By Meredith McCullum

Reese-Hansen and Gracelyn Richards are set to face off in the championship final Friday afternoon, August 30. Reese-Hansen took an 8-2 win when the teams played during pool play. The action begins at 1:30pm Mountain time at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Live scores can be found on the CurlingZone webpage and all games are livestreamed on CurlingZone's youtube.

Reese-Hansen and her team of Megan McGillivray, Kim Bonneau and Julianna Mackenzie from Victoria, BC, sailed through pool play undefeated. As the top team in pool B, skip Reese-Hansen along with her teammates Meghan McGillivray, Kim Bonneau and Julianna MacKenzie would take on the defending champions from Edmonton Selena Gray-Withers in the second semifinal Friday morning.

The teams traded deuces in the first 2 ends. A single for Gray-Withers in the third and a score of two for Reese-Hansen in the fourth left the game sitting at a score of 4-3 halfway through. A blank and a single for Gray-Withers in five and six tied the game up going into the last two ends. Reese-Hansen secured an all important deuce in the seventh end and Gray-Withers could only manage a single in eight, giving Reese-Hansen the 5-6 victory and a spot in the final.

Team Richards - Gracelyn Richards, Emma Yarmuch, Sophia Ryhorchuk and Rachel Jaques - finished 3-2 through pool play, second rank in pool B. This ranking earned them a spot in semifinal number one Friday morning.

In the other semifinal, Richards, out of Edmonton, would face Emma Artichuk from Manotick, Ontario. The game started slow with two blanks before Richards got a huge steal of two in the third to open the game up. Artichuck would even the game up with a single in the fourth and a steal of one in the sixth. But it would be Richards who closed out the tight match with a single and a steal of one in the eighth and final end.
