Sylvain Dicaire wins Challenge de Curling de Gatineau Open
![]() Sylvain Dicaire (Val d'Or, QC) wins the Challenge de Curling de Gatineau Open, defeating Brian Lewis (Ottawa, ON) 6-2. Dicaire as skip throwing third stones with Ghislain Doyon throwing the last stones and Claude St-Germain and Kurtis Hanna on the front end take home the $2,400CDN first place cheque along with 14.712 world ranking points, while Lewis receives $1,600CDN and 11.559 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Dicaire blanked the first 2 ends, got on the board scoring 2 in the third end, then forced Lewis to a single in the fourth end to lead 2-1. Dicaire scored a single in the fifth end, then forced Lewis to a single in the sixth end before scoring the knockout blow getting 3 in the seventh end for the 6-2 win. In the semifinals, Dicaire defeated Chris Gardner (Buckingham, QC) 6-4 and Lewis defeated Mario Deschatelets (Buckingham, QC) 4-3. Gardner and Deschatelets earned $1,100CDN and 8.932 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Dicaire defeated Jamie Birtwistle (Ottawa, ON) 8-5, Lewis defeated Maxime Dufresne (Montreal, QC) 7-6, while Deschatelets defeated Greg Sleno (Montreal, QC) 8-2 and Gardner defeated Cole Lyon-Hatcher (Ottawa, ON) 5-3. Birtwistle, Dufresne, Lyon-Hatcher and Sleno earned $750CDN along with 6.305 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Dicaire went 3-0 in the 32 team double knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Dicaire defeated Isabelle Neron (Chicoutimi, QC) 6-2, won against Dufresne 8-1, and Louis Biron (Buckingham, QC) 8-5 in the A-Qualifier to reach the playoffs. |
