Lotts win 2024 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship

Manitoba's Kadriana and Colton Lott came out on top in Fredericton, emerging as Canadian Champions (Photo: Curling Canada).

At 9am the semi finals were played, with two championship berths on the line. On sheet C Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant took on Kadriana and Colton Lott. Lott/Lott started strong with three points in the first end. Peterman/Gallant came back strong scoring one point in each of the next four ends to go up 4-3 after five. However it would be all Lott for the rest of the game as they secured an 8-4 victory and the first spot in the final.

Meanwhile on sheet D, the other semi final saw Laura Walker and Kirk Muyres face Madison and Rylan Kleiter. Walker/Muyres had a strong start, going up 5-1 half way through the game. A huge three points from Kleiter/Kleiter in the seventh end resulted in a one point game going into the final end. Walker/Muyres made no mistake with hammer in the eighth, scoring a point and securing the second berth in the final.

The bronze medal match was played at 12pm with Peterman/Gallant outplaying Kleiter/Kleiter to earn a podium finish. Along with the bronze medal, the pair booked themselves a spot in the mixed doubles Olympic qualifiers next year in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The top three teams from this event, along with qualifiers from future events, will compete for the right to represent Canada in 2026 in Italy.

The championship final was played at 1pm, and it was a tight battle the whole way through. The game was a rematch of the 2018 final, which Walker and Muyres won. Walker/Muyres stole two in the second end to go up 3-0, but Lott/Lott evened the score right back with a three. The teams traded singles for a few ends and a deuce by Lott/Lott put them up one without hammer going into the last end. Laura Walker had a triple on her last shot to force an extra and she got two of the rocks out of play. A measure was required between two rocks in the four foot and after a dramatic few moments, the point was awarded to Lott/Lott to give them a 7-5 win.

Kadriana and Colton Lott, married since 2022, became a mixed doubles team in 2018. They have two silvers and a bronze at nationals to this point. With the win today, the pair officially became Canadian Champions for the first time and will represent Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Championships in Ostersund, Sweden from April 20-27.
