Wayne Tuck Jr. wins Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel


Wayne Tuck (Strathroy, ON) wins the Stroud Sleeman Cash Spiel, defeating Brandon Tippin (Barrie, ON) 6-4 in an extra end at the Stroud Curling Club in Innisfil, Canada. Tuck with Chad Allen at third, Kurt Armstrong and Matt Pretty on the front end take home the $4,000CDN first place cheque along with 22.657 world ranking points, while Tippin receives $2,100CDN and 17.802 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Tuck scored 1 in the first end. After a blank end, Tuck stole the third end, then forced Tippin to a single in the fourth end to lead 2-1. Tuck scored a single in the fifth end, Tippin responded in the sixth end scoring 2. then added a steal in the seventh end to take a 4-3 lead, Tuck scored a single in the eighth end to to the game. then added a steal of 2 in the extra end for the 6-4 win.

In the semifinals, Tuck defeated Tanner Horgan (Sudbury, ON) 6-2 and Tippin defeated Cory Heggestad (Barrie, ON) 5-4 in an extra end. Horgan and Heggestad earned $1,250CDN and 13.756 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Tuck defeated John Steski (Ottawa, ON) 8-0, Tippin defeated Ian Dickie (Toronto, ON) 5-2, while Heggestad defeated Dayna Deruelle (Kingston, ON) 5-3 and Horgan defeated Mark Kean (Woodstock, ON) 7-3. Deruelle, Steski, Kean and Dickie earned $900CDN along with 9.710 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Tuck went 4-0 in the 20 team round-robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Tuck defeated Michael Shepherd (Richmond Hill, ON) 9-2, won against Steski 5-4, Chris Wimmer (Stroud, ON) 6-5, and Gary McCullough (Thornhill, ON) 7-4 in their final qualifying round match. to reach the playoffs undefeated.
