Penny Barker wins Regina Callie Rockoberfest


Penny Barker (Moose Jaw, SK) wins the Regina Callie Rockoberfest, defeating Rae Ann Williamson (Weyburn, SK) 4-3. Barker with Deanna Doig at third, Lorraine Schneider and Danielle Sicinski on the front end take home the $1,400CDN first place cheque along with 15.654 world ranking points, while Williamson receives $1,000CDN and 12.300 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Williamson scored 1 in the first end, then forced Barker to a single in the second end. Williamson scored a single in the third end, then forced Barker to a single in the fourth end to tie the game at 2. Barker added a steal in the fifth end, then forced Williamson to a single in the sixth end to square the game at 3. After a blank end in the seventh end, Barker scored a single the eighth end for the 4-3 win.

In the semifinals, Barker defeated Patty Hersikorn (Saskatoon, SK) 7-5 and Williamson defeated Stephanie Todd (Regina, SK) 5-2. Todd and Hersikorn earned $700CDN and 9.504 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Hersikorn defeated Rachel Erickson (Regina, SK) 7-6 and Todd defeated Chantelle Eberle (Regina, SK) 6-3. Eberle and Erickson earned $500CDN along with 6.709 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Barker went 3-0 in the 12 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Barker defeated Lisa Wyatt (Lumsden, SK) 8-4, then won against Erickson 9-4, and Sara England (Regina, SK) 6-5 in their final qualifying round match.
