Pierre-Luc Morissette wins NAVY Fall Classic Open
![]() Pierre-Luc Morissette (Chicoutimi, QC) wins the NAVY Fall Classic Open, defeating Chris Gardner (Buckingham, QC) 6-3. Morissette as skip throwing third stones with Jean-Sebastian Roy throwing the last stones along with Thierry Fournier at second and Stephane Roy at lead take home the $1,500CDN first place cheque along with 14.279 world ranking points, while Gardner receives $1,000CDN and 11.219 world ranking points for their second place finish. Gardner opened the scoring stealing 1 in the first end, then forced Morissette to a single in the second end. After Gardner scored a single in the third end, Morissette responded in the fourth end scoring 2 to take a 3-2 lead, then added a steal in the fifth end. Morissette then forced Gardner to a single in the sixth end, scored 2 in the seventh end to hold on for a 6-3 win. In the semifinals, Morissette defeated Billy Woods (Belleville, ON) 6-2 and Gardner defeated Mark Homan (Ottawa, ON) 6-0. Homan and Woods earned $600CDN and 8.669 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Morissette defeated John Steski (Ottawa, ON) 6-2, Gardner defeated Chadd Vandermade (Ottawa, ON) 5-4, while Woods defeated Susan Froud (Beaton, ON) 7-3 and Homan defeated Jordan Chandler (Sudbury, ON) 6-5. Froud, Steski, Vandermade and Chandler earned $400CDN along with 6.119 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Morissette went 3-0 in the 16 team round-robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Morissette defeated Dave Stanley (Russell, ON) 7-6, then won against Barb Willemsen (Ottawa, ON) 9-2, and Woods 5-2 in their final qualifying round match. |
