Edin in Oslo to start Season


OSLO - Sweden's Niklas Edin (photo: GSOC) returns to ice at the Oslo Cup, opening event of the Nordic Curling Tour season.

It's was a dream of Norway's Alexander Lindstroem to build a competitve tour of events closer to home, and the second year in the return of the Oslo Cup featuring many of Europe's top names in curling.

2023 marks the second season since the Oslo Cup returned, with Edin winning last season over Norway's Steffen Walstad in the final.

Edin has a career record of 43 wins and 9 losses and 1 tie in 9 appearances at the Oslo Cup, winning four times, in 2012, 2011, 2010, and 2005. Third Oskar Eriksson has a career record of 24 wins and 7 losses in 6 appearances at the Oslo Cup, winning with his own team in 2009. Edin's team is rounded out on the front-end by Rasmus Wrana and Christopher Sundgren.

Last season, Edin and team posted an 84-23 record, finishing #3 overall on the World Curling Federation World Team Rankings, in a season that saw Niklas miss a significant amount of time after suffering a knee injury in October at the HearingLife Tour Challenge in Grande Prairie. Entering the Slam, Edin had followed up their win at the Oslo Cup with a win at the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard. The team continued their success, finishing off the Slam event with Eriksson at the helm, then continued their winning ways at the IG Wealth Management Western Showdown.



Edin returned to the lineup in January, reaching the final of of the Co-op Canadian Open Grand Slam, then winning the Swedish Championships and finishing off wiht a win at the Sun City Cup, the final event of the Nordic Tour season.

Edin opens play on Thursday, August 31st against Norway's Anders Mjoen, following up with a single game on Friday against Norway's Lukas Hostmaelingen. Edin finishes on Saturday with two games, taking on Switzerland's Michael Brunner in the morning and Kjetil Bjoerke of Norway in the afternoon.

Joining Edin in the field is #7-ranked Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland, #11-ranked Magnus Ramsfjell of Norway and #14-ranked Wouter Gosgens of the Netherlands. James Craik (#18) and Cameron Bryce (#20) of Scotland, Marco Hoesli (#24) and Fredrik Nyman (#26) of Sweden round out the top 8 team in the 15-team field.
