Rachel Homan wins Prestige Hotels Classic
![]() Rachel Homan (Ottawa, ON) wins the Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic, defeating Un-Chi Gim (Gyeonggi-do, Korea) 10-4 at the Vernon Curling Club in Vernon, Canada. Homan with Emma Miskew at third, Joanne Courtney and Lisa Weagle on the front end take home the $9,000CDN first place cheque along with 51.148 world ranking points, while Gim receives $6,900CDN and 40.188 world ranking points for their second place finish. Homan opened the scoring stealing 3 in the first end, added another steal of 2 in the second end to blow the game open early. After Gim scored a single in the third end, Homan responded in the fourth end scoring 2 to extend lead to 7-1. Gim scored 3 in the fifth end to close the gap, but Homan responded in the sixth end scoring 3 for handshakes the 10-4 win. In the semifinals, Homan defeated Shannon Kleibrink (Calgary, AB) 6-5 in an extra end and Gim defeated Chelsea Carey (Calgary, AB) 6-5. Carey won $4,500CDN, while Kleibrink won $4,400CDN along 31.054 ranking points for both semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Homan defeated Nina Roth (Blaine, USA) 8-3, Gim defeated Val Sweeting (Edmonton, AB) 7-4, while Carey defeated Diane Gushulak (New Westminister, BC) 6-5 and Kleibrink defeated Kelsey Rocque (Edmonton, AB) 5-4. Gushulak, Sweeting, Roth and Rocque earned $3,150CDN along with 21.921 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Homan went 5-0 in the 20 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Homan defeated Kleibrink 4-3, then won against Alyssa Kyllo (Vernon, BC) 4-2, against Karla Thompson (Kamloops, BC) 7-6, Patti Knezevic (Lake Country, BC) 8-1, and Kayte Gyles (New Westminster/Cloverdale, BC) 4-2 to finish the round-robin undefeated. |
