Jentsch Wins Perth Masters

Germany's Daniela Jentsch (WCF Photo) makes it back-to-back title win to start 2023.

By Sean Landriault.

After four days of play at the Perth Masters, the final came down to the German team of Daniela Jentsch, Emira Abbes, Mia Hoehne, Analena Jentsch from Fussen and the Norwegian team of Marianne Roervik, Kristin Skaslien, Mille Nordbye, Martine Roenning from Oslo.

After blanking the first two end, Daniela Jentsch faced three on her last shot in the third end, drawing the four foot for one point to open the scoring. In the fourth end, Kristin Skaslien, throwing fourth stones for Team Roervik, was heavy on her draw and gave up a steal of one to go down 2-0 midway through the game.

In the second half, Roervik scored a single point in the 5th end to make the score 2-1. The 6th end proved critical as Jentsch was able to draw around a corner guard on her first stone forcing Skaslien to try a delicate takeout, which she missed. Jentsch then drew into the rings for a deuce to take a commanding 4-1 lead, which they maintained until the end to win the game 5-1 and take the Perth Masters title.

This is the third title of the season and the second consecutive title for Jentsch, as they are riding a 12-game winning streak through the WCT-Japan New Year Medalist event in Miyota, Japan, last week.

The Norwegians finished 3rd in Pool A with a 3-2 record, and in the playoffs, they knocked off Stefania Constantini of Italy and Rebecca Morrison's team from Scotland in the semi-final by a score of 6-4. Meanwhile, the Germans finished a perfect 5-0 in Pool B which gave them a bye to the semifinals, where they defeated Moa Dryburgh's team from Sweden 5-4.
