By Sean Landriault At the Karuizawa International, the last two international teams, Einarson from Canada and Kim from South Korea overcame the many Japanese teams that were in the field to reach the final. In that final, the Gangneung rink of Eunjung Kim along with her teammates Kyeongae Kim, Chohi Kim, Seonyeong Kim and Yeongmi Kim got off to a quick start by taking a 4-1 lead midway through the game on the back of a 3-ender in the third end. In the second half, the reigning Canadian Champions of Kerri Einarson, Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Brianne Harris from Gimli, Manitoba made a double takeout to put a deuce on the board in the 6th end to bring the score to 4-3. Then, in the seventh end, Kim scored a single to make it 5-3. In the eighth end Einarson while trying to score two to tie, tried a split on her last shot but just missed it, giving Kim the victory 6-3 and the title at the Karuizawa International. This is the Eunjung Kim team’s first victory of the season. Their best result prior to this week was reaching a semi-final in Toronto in early October. For the Einarson team, this was their fourth final of the season, with their sole victory coming at the WFG Masters a week ago in Oakville. |
