Black wins Bogside Cup


Christina Black (Halifax, NS) wins the Bogside Cup, defeating Marlee Powers (Halifax, NS) 7-1 at the Montague Curling Club in PEI.

Black with Jenn Baxter at third, Karlee Everist and Shelley Barker on the front end went undefeated over the weekend at the inaugural event supported by Bogside Brewing. Black take home the $2,600CDN first place cheque along with 18.75 ranking points to improve their position on the WCF World Team Rankings inside the top 20.

Starting with hammer, Black blanked the first end, then getting on the board scoring 1 in the second end adding a steal of 2 in the third end. Black forced Powers into a single in the fourth end to take hammer back along with a 3-1 lead.

After a blank end, Black scored 2 in the sixth end and stole 2 more in the seventh end for the early handshakes.

In the semifinals, Black defeated Kristen MacDiarmid of Halifax 9-3 and Powers defeated Crouse (Halifax) 7-5. Powers earns 13.75 ranking points for their runner-up finish while MacDiarmid and Crouse earned 10.625 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, , .

Black finished 4-0 in the 11 team round-robin qualifying round. In their opening game, Black defeated Crouse 10-6, then won 7-0 against Samantha Crook (Sackville, NB). Black followed up with a 9-1 against Jessica Daigle (Halifax, NS), then won 9-3 against Melissa Morrow (Prince Edward Island) in their final qualifying round match.
