Tirinzoni Wins BOOST National

Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni is your 2022 BOOST National Champion after her Swiss rink defeated Manitoba's Kerri Einarson 7-3 in the Championship Final in North Bay, Ontario.

Team Tirinzoni- with third Alina Paetz (throwing fourth stones), second Carole Howald, and lead Briar Hurlimann- opened Sunday's final with the hammer. With her last shot in the first end, Paetz was left with an open draw for two; despite a light release from the third, the rock would come to rest at the top of the twelve-foot, putting Tirinzoni's rink up 2-0 after one.

Einrason's rink then responded in the second with a deuce of their own, however, the tie was short-lived as Tirinzoni answered right back in the third end with another two points. Team Einarson was forced to settle for one in the fourth end, trailing 4-3 heading into the break.

Coming back in five, Team Tirinzoni was forced to settle for their first single point of the game, taking a 5-3 lead. The squad from Aarau went on to steal one in six and another in the seventh, after which Einarson would concede, handing Tirinzoni the win 7-3.

With the victory, Tirinzoni takes home the crown at the first Grand Slam of Curling event this season, winning all seven games en route to the title.

The reigning World Women's Curling Champion has now won three grand slams throughout her career, with her most recent win up until now coming at the 2019 Champions Cup in Saskatoon. Today's victory marked Tirinzoni's fifth-consecutive win against Team Einarson.

Sunday's result is the latest in a long string of successes Team Tirinzoni has accumulated so far during this relatively short season. Just one week ago in Toronto, the rink took home the title at the 2022 Stu Sells Toronto Tankard, after they beat Ontario's Isabelle Ladouceur 6-5 in the final. The rink also won an event in Quebec this past August.

Team Tirinzoni will look to make it two slam titles in a row, when the series returns to action in two weeks' time with the 2022 Hearing Life Tour Challenge, October 18 to 23 at the CocaCola Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
