Tirinzoni wins Summer Series


Silvana Tirinzoni (Aarau, SUI) wins the Summer Series, defeating Clancy Grandy (Vancouver, BC) 6-4 in held at Centre Recreatif Marianne St-gelais in St-Felicien, Quebec.

Tirinzoni was playing with only three players this weekend with regular fourth stone thrower Alina Paetz unable to join the text until next week. Tirinzoni threw skip stones, while Carole Howald and Briar Huerlimann shared the first six stones on the front end.

Tirinzoni takes home the $6,500CDN first place cheque along with 30.000 world ranking points, while Grandy receives $4,500CDN and 22.000 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Grandy opened the scoring stealing 1 in the first end. After a blank end, Grandy stole another point in the third end. Tirinzoni responded in the fourth end scoring 5 to break open the game and lead to 5-2. Grandy scored a single in the fifth end, then stole another point in the seventh end to get within a point, but Tirinzoni scored a single in the eighth end for the 6-4 win.

In the semifinals, Tirinzoni defeated Ontario's Hollie Duncan 7-3 and Grandy defeated Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg 10-3. Duncan and Jones earned $2,500CDN and 17.000 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, , .

Tirinzoni finished 4-0 in the 10 team Summer Series qualifying round. In their opening game, Tirinzoni defeated Lauren Horton (Montreal, QC) 7-3, then won 6-4 against Laurie St-Georges (Laval-sur-la-Lac, QC) and 8-2 against Daniela Jentsch (Fuessen, GER). Tirinzoni won 5-2 against Katelyn Wasylkiw (Whitby, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
