Kleiter Wins Best of the West

Rylan Kleiter of Saskatoon won 9-8 in an extra end over Colton Lott to claim the SGI Canada Best of the West title.

Kleiter with Joshua Mattern at third, Trevor Johnson at second and Matthieu Taillon at lead started with hammer in the first end, trading single with Lott of Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba.

Kleiter scored three in the third end to take 4-1 lead, though Lott and his team of brother Tanner Lott at third, Kyle Doering at second and Emerson Klimpke at lead got two points back of their own in the fourth end.

After holding Kleiter to a single in the fifth end, Lott scored two points in the sixth end to event that game at 5-5 with two ends to play.

In a wild finish, Kleiter got three in the seventh end, then a couple mistakes led to Lott getting three back themselves to force the extra end.

Kleiter finished the event going undefeated with 5 wins, winning 5-3 over Karsten Sturmay of Edmonton in the semifinals, while Lott knocked off Tyler Tardi of Langley 8-5 in their semifinal match.

The SGI Canada Best of the West was a creation formed by Kleiter along with Matt Dunstone and Dustin Mikush to create an Under-30 event that would give young teams the chance to compete for top-level prizes and gain important competitive experience.
