Brown wins Best of the West

Corryn Brown of Kamloops won 5-3 over Beth Peterson of Winnipeg in the SGI Canada Best of the West Finals.

Brown with her team of Erin Pincott at third, Rachel Erickson at second and Samantha Fisher at lead made the nose hit against two in the final end to take down the women's title.

Brown opened the scoring in the second end with a single point, then after Peterson tied the game in the fourth end, Brown pounced with a 3-point end in the fifth to lead 4-1.

Peterson, with Laura Burtnyk at third, Katherine Doerksen at second and Melissa Gordon at lead scored a single in the seventh end, then stole another point in the seventh end to get the deficit to a single point.

Peterson won 8-5 over Kayla MacMillan of Vancouver in Saturday evening's semifinals, while Brown defeated Mackenzie Zacharias of Altona to reach the final.
