Rocque/Epping win Mixed Doubles Players' Championship
![]() John Epping and Kelsey Rocque won 8-2 over Chelsea Carey and Rylan Kleiter to win the first event hosted by Curling Stadium Leduc. Rocque and Epping opened with a single point in the first end, then stole ends two, three and four to hold a 5-0 break at the halfway point. Going undefeated through the weekend with six straight wins, the pair based out of Toronto, wth Rocque replacing Lisa Weagle for the weekend, won 6-5 in the semifinals against Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing, and 6-4 in the quarterfinals over Nancy Martin and Tyrel Griffith. The event debuted the Curling Stadium camera system inside the Leduc Curling Club in Leduc, Alberta, covering thirty-nine of a possible fifty-two games over the weekend as testing continued on the platform. Epping and Rocque qualified through the A-event bracket, joined by Jocelyn Peterman and Catlin Schneider of Winnipeg. Peterman and Schneider were knocked out in the quarterfinals, losing a 6-4 decision to Clancy Grandy and Pat Janssen, who advanced through the C-Event. Grandy/Janssen went on to drop a 6-5 decision to Carey/Kleiter in the semifinals. Eight qualifiers reached the playoff round from the 20-team triple knockout, with two through the A-event, three qualifiers through the B-event and three more qualifiers through the C-event. In the other quarterfinals matches, Jones/Laing won 8-6 over Brittany Tran and Aaron Sluchinski of C9-6algary and Carey/Kleiter won 9-8 over Chantele Broderson and Kyler Kleibrink of Calgary. |
