By: Dylan Chenier John Epping secured himself a spot in the 1v2 Page-Playoff game at the 2022 Ontario Men's Tankard in Port Elgin, after picking up an 8-6 win against Glenn Howard's rink in Friday's A-Final. Team Howard, with Scott Howard filling in at skip, Adam Spencer at third, David Mathers at second, and Tim March throwing lead stones, opened the draw with a single point in the second after blanking the first end. The rink would then go on to steal a point in the third end. Epping's rink, with third Ryan Fry, second Matt Camm, and lead Brent Laing, then got on the board in the fourth end with a big score of four points. Team Howard would be forced to settle for another single in the fifth end, trailing Epping 4-3 heading into the break. Coming back in the sixth, Team Howard would steal three points, taking a 6-4 lead. Epping's squad would respond in the seventh end with a score of one. The team would then go on to steal three straight single points, eventually taking an 8-6 victory after ten ends of play. The win secures Team Epping a spot in Saturday afternoon's 1v2 Page-Playoff game, with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship final. The loss dropped Team Howard to the B-Side of the triple knockout format, where they will face Team Niepage in a second-round draw on Friday afternoon. The playoffs at the 2022 Ontario Tankard get underway Saturday at The Plex in Port Eglin, with the 1v2 game up first at 2:30 PM ET. The winner of that game will advance to the championship final, which is set for Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM ET. The loser of the 1v2 game drops to the semi-finals, where they take on the winner of Saturday evening's 3v4 game. The semis are set for Sunday morning at 9:30 AM ET. The winner of the Tankard will go on to represent Ontario at the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge. While both teams have recent experience at the Brier, Team Howard hasn't represented the province at a national championship since the 2017 event in St. Johns.
