By: Cameron Sallaj After falling to the Chelsea Carey rink in the A Qualifier, Barker and her team of Christie Gamble, Jenna Enge and Danielle Sicinski stayed resilient and picked up two straight wins in the B Event to secure their spot in the playoff round. Team Barker dropped the A Event final 6-4 to the Carey rink and were back on the ice immediately where they picked up a narrow 6-4 win over North Battleford's Robyn Silvernagle. The win set up the B Qualifier game Saturday morning in Assiniboia between Moose Jaw's Barker rink and Kronau's Amber Holland. Barker picked up the first points of the game, taking two in the opening end with the hammer. Holland responded right away with a deuce of her own to level the score after two. The team from Kronau took their first lead of the game with a single point steal to go in front 3-2. The lead was only temporary, however, as Barker bounced back with two points in the fourth to take the 4-3 lead. Holland took yet another deuce in the fifth end to lead 5-4 at the break. Team Holland extended their lead to two points in the sixth end following a stolen single point. Barker needed to draw full eight foot for her single, but her stone sailed through the house. The Moose Jaw based rink stayed resilient, however, tying the game after eight ends. The team scored a single point in the seventh end and took a pivotal steal in the eighth to knot things up at six. Holland was forced to one in the ninth end, making the score 7-6 coming home. In the tenth, momentum swung back and forth between the two teams. However, Amber Holland hit and rolled out on a double attempt on her final stone, leaving Penny Barker a draw to the four foot to score her two points, which she made perfectly. Barker secured the 8-7 win and with it a spot in the 1 vs. 2 page playoff game. Barker will have a chance at redemption in the 1 vs. 2 game as she will take on Chelsea Carey's Regina based rink which she lost to in the A Qualifier. The game is set to be played at 7:30 PM Central Time Saturday night. There are still two playoff spots up for grabs in Assiniboia in the last chance C Event. Robyn Silvernagle and Ashley Howard both secured wins Saturday morning and will face each other at 3:00 PM Central Time for one of the spots in the 3 vs. 4 game. The other spot will go to either Sherry Anderson or Amber Holland, who drops into the C Qualifier by losing the B Event final. That game will also be at 3:00 PM Central. The two winners will face off at 7:30 PM Central Time for a spot in Sunday mornings semifinal. The 2022 Viterra Saskatchewan Scotties are currently being held January 5th through 9th at the Assiniboia Curling Club in Assiniboia.
