By: Cameron Sallaj Team Paul Cseke continued their great run at this year's BC Men's Championship Thursday afternoon in Kamloops by winning the A Qualifier game. The win wrapped up the A Event and secured Cseke's place in the page playoff round. Cseke took on Team Jeff Richard in the A Qualifier game, another team who posted a 3-0 record en route to the qualifying game. Play got underway in the first end with a single by Team Cseke. In the second end, the team from the Victoria Curling Club stole a single point to extend their lead to two points. The lead was short-lived, however, as Team Richard tied the game with a two spot in the third end. Team Cseke retook the lead in the fourth end with a single point to go up one. Things were to get even better for the Cseke rink the following end as they stole two to take a commanding 5-2 lead. The game ended early the following end with another steal, this time of three, by the Victoria rink. Team Richard conceeded after just six ends, making the final score of the match 8-2. Team Cseke, with skip Paul Cseke, third Corey Chester, second Jay Wakefield, lead Ryan Cassidy and alternate Ty Russell are now the first team qualified for the four team page playoff system that will begin Saturday morning in Kamloops. The team awaits their opponent, who will be the winner of the B Event. Team Richard now drops into that B Event and will have to wait to see who they will play in the event final. They will take on the winner of the game between pre-tournament favorites Jim Cotter and Tyler Tardi, who both won their B Event Quarterfinals Thursday afternoon. Tardi upended Team Cameron de Jong 8-6 while Cotter doubled up on Team Sebastien Robillard 8-4. The B Event Semifinal will be contested at 7:00 PM Pacific Time. In the C Event, four teams have been eliminated from the 2022 provincial championship. Mitchell Kopytko, Josh Kennelly, Dean Joanisse and Sean Geall all lost their must win games Thursday and are now out of this year's provincial championship. In the C semifinals, de Jong will meet Team Neil Dangerfield while Robillard goes up against Rob Nobert. The de Jong vs. Dangerfield game goes at 7:00 PM Pacific time while Robillard vs. Nobert will be played Friday morning at 9:00 AM Pacific Time. The BC men's and women's provincials are currently being held January 4th through 9th at the Kamloops Curling Club. Games throughout the week will be streamed on Curl BC's YouTube Channel and Facebook Page. Both events are being played in a triple knockout format which will qualify four women's teams and four men's teams for the playoff round.
