![]() Peter De Cruz (Geneve, Switzerland) wins the Curling Masters Champery, defeating Glen Muirhead (Perth, SCO) 6-5 in Champery, Switzerland. De Cruz as skip throwing second stones with Benoit Schwarz throwing the last stones along with Sven Michel at third and Valentin Tanner at lead take home the $18,433CDN first place cheque along with 44.550 world ranking points, while Muirhead receives $11,849CDN and 32.670 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, De Cruz scored 2 in the first end, then added a steal in the second end. Muirhead scored 3 in the third end to tie the game at 3. After blanking 2 ends, De Cruz scored a single in the sixth end with Muirhead responding in the seventh end scoring 2. Down 1 with hammer, De Cruz scored 2 in the eighth end for the 6-5 win. In the semifinals, De Cruz defeated Jaap van Dorp (Zoetermeer, Netherlands) 8-6 and Muirhead defeated Niklas Edin (Karlstad, Sweden) 7-6 in an extra end. Edin and van Dorp earned $6,583CDN and 25.245 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, De Cruz defeated Joel Retornaz (Trentino, Italy) 8-2, Muirhead defeated Steffen Walstad (Oppdal, Norway) 6-5, while van Dorp defeated Marc Pfister (Adelboden, Switzerland) 5-4 in an extra end and Edin defeated David Sik (Prague, Czech Republic) 7-2. Sik, Retornaz, Walstad and Pfister earned $3,950CDN along with 17.820 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. De Cruz went 4-0 in the 20 team round robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, De Cruz defeated Jan Hess (Zug, Switzerland) 12-4, won against Bochatay (Switzerland) 12-2, and against Tomi Rantamaki (Hyvinkaa, Finland) 7-1. De Cruz finished off the qualifying round with a 6-3 win against Retornaz to reach the playoffs undefeated. |
