By: Cameron Sallaj The Canadian women's curling team is still alive at the Milano Cortina Games with a 10-7 win over South Korea in their final round robin game. Heading into the match with a record of 5-3, the Canadian team of Rachel Homan, Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes needed a win to secure qualification. Otherwise, South Korea's Team Gim, who shared a 5-3 record, would've advanced, leaving Canada on the outside looking in for a second straight Games. It was a clutch performance by Rachel Homan in the first half that kept Canada alive, making a perfect freeze in the second to avoid giving up four. Despite conceding three in the third after a split by Gim, Canada got two back in the fourth before forcing the Koreans to one in the fifth. Tied heading into the second half, Canada capitalized on a series of errors by South Korea to draw for four, giving them control of the game. While the Koreans were able to close the gap with two in the ninth, it ultimately wasn't enough as Homan hit for one in the tenth to take a 10-7 win and send Canada to the playoffs. With a 6-3 record at the end of the round robin, Canada ranks fourth in the group standings and will take on number one ranked Sweden's Anna Hasselborg in the semifinal round. The Canadian team previously defeated Sweden in the round robin to keep their medal hopes alive and will need to do the same if they want to reach the gold medal game. In the other semifinal, the United States' Tabitha Peterson will face Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni in a rematch of the final round robin game. Both semifinals get underway Friday at 8 am Eastern Time. The bronze medal game will then be played Saturday, also at 8 am, while the gold medal game will take place Sunday at 5 am.
