By: Cameron Sallaj It was not an ideal start in Tahoe for the Saskatchewan rink of Mike McEwen, Colton Flasch and Kevin and Dan Marsh who dropped consecutive games to Brad Jacobs (7-6) and Bruce Mouat (6-1) to begin the week. With their backs against the wall and needing to pull off two outright wins to stay alive, the team cruised to an 8-0 shutout victory over Jared Allen's All-Star squad on Thursday to get half the job done. In Friday morning's Draw 13, they took on Sweden's Niklas Edin in another must win to get into the tiebreak scenarios. Starting with hammer, it was a quick start for the Canadian team who converted two to open the scoring. They then forced the Swedes to one in the second before scoring another deuce in the third to lead 4-1. This momentum was halted in the fourth, however, as Edin counted three of his own to knot the score at four all. Coming back in the fifth, McEwen kept their 100% hammer efficiency by taking another deuce. Trying for two of their own in the sixth, Edin could not keep his shooter on a double takeout attempt, counting just one and trailing 6-5 heading to seven. Another solid end by the Canadians in the seventh allowed Mike McEwen a double to count five which he made no mistake on, taking the game 11-5 and improving his record to 2-2 with six points. Sitting in the middle of the pact, Team McEwen will need to wait and see how their fate turns out as six more games are to be played Friday on the men's side in Tahoe. They are currently tied with both Edin and Joel Retornaz, however, there is the possibility for five other teams to finish at 2-2. The next draw from the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe gets underway at 11:30 AM PT with Brad Jacobs and Marc Muskatewitz set for the Sportsnet featured game.
