![]() Greg Persinger (Seattle, WA) wins the Curl Mesabi Classic, defeating Joe Polo (Duluth, MN) 7-2 at Curl Mesabi in Eveleth, United States. Persinger with Rich Ruohonen at third, Colin Hufman and Phil Tilker on the front end take home the $7,709CDN first place cheque along with 28.467 world ranking points, while Polo receives $5,139CDN and 22.367 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Persinger scored 3 in the first end, then added a steal in the second end. Polo scored 2 in the third end. After a blank end, Persinger scored 3 in the fifth end for early handshakes and the 7-2 win. In the semifinals, Persinger defeated Andrew Stopera (Chicago, IL) 5-4 in an extra end and Polo defeated Pete Fenson (Bemidji, MN) 3-2. Stopera and Fenson earned $2,570CDN and 17.284 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Persinger defeated Heath McCormick (Blaine, USA) 7-6 in an extra end, Polo defeated John Shuster (Duluth, USA) 8-7 in an extra end, while Fenson defeated Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) 6-5 and Stopera defeated Jean-Sebastien Roy (Chicoutimi, QC) 6-4. Shuster, McCormick, Roy and Balsdon earned $1,285CDN along with 12.200 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Persinger went 4-0 in the 20 team round-robin pools qualifying round. In their opening game, Persinger defeated Fenson 6-4, won against Cameron Rittenour (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) 7-1, against Adam Casey (Saskatoon, SK) 6-5, and against Colin Koivula (Thunder Bay, ON) 10-5 in their final qualifying round match. |
