By: Cameron Sallaj Currently ranked number five in the world, Xenia Schwaller and her 2024 world junior championship rink have been dominant this season. In seven events played, the team has reached three quarterfinals, two semifinals, and won both the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic and the Oslo Cup. This week in Tahoe, Nevada, the team has kept their momentum up as they secured their spot in another playoff round by defeating Scotland's Rebecca Morrison 9-3. Starting with hammer, Team Schwaller gave up a steal in the first end. They bounced back quickly though, tacking three on the board in the second to take the lead. Through the next four ends, the two European squads swapped singles with the Swiss continuing to hold a two-point lead into the seventh. There, Morrison needed an in-off for a score of one which did not come up, resulting in a steal of four and a big win for the young Swiss rink in Draw 13. Now 3-1, Team Schwaller become the fourth women's team to qualify for the playoffs in Tahoe behind Homan, Tirinzoni and Yoshimura. In their earlier games, the team won 8-4 over Kaitlyn Lawes (Winnipeg, MB) and 6-5 over Seungyoun Ha (Chuncheon, KOR). Their lone loss came on Thursday 7-6 to Ikue Kitazawa (Nagano, JPN). Morrison, needing the win, was eliminated at 1-3. The next draw from the KIOTI GSOC Tahoe gets underway at 11:30 AM PT with Brad Jacobs and Marc Muskatewitz set for the Sportsnet featured game.
