By Connor Simms, #23 World-Ranked squad from Winnipeg, Manitoba, with Jordon McDonald skipping, Jacques Gauthier at third, Elias Huminicki and Cameron Olafson on the front end, are winning lots of must-win scenarios this week. They went 5-2 through the round robin, grabbing second place. In their opening game, McDonald defeated Mark Kean (Woodstock, ON) 6-5, then won 11-6 against Jayden King (London, ON). McDonald went on to lose 8-4 against Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, MB). McDonald lost 9-6 to Jean-Michel Menard (Amos, QC), where McDonald responded with a 9-7 win over Owen Purcell (Halifax, NS). McDonald won 8-2 against Scott Howard (Navan, ON), then won 10-8 against Sam Mooibroek (Whitby, ON) in their final qualifying round match. #36 World-Ranked squad from Navan, Ontario, Scott Howard, with Mathew Camm at third, Jason Camm and Scott Chadwick on the front end, had to rely on a good draw to the button score this week. In a three-way tie for third, Howard had the best draw to the button, claiming the final playoff spot. They went 4-3 this week through the round robin. In their opening game, Howard defeated Jayden King (London, ON) 9-4, then won 12-5 against Owen Purcell (Halifax, NS). Howard went on to lose 5-4 against Sam Mooibroek (Whitby, ON). Howard responded with a 6-3 win over Mark Kean (Woodstock, ON). Howard won 7-4 against Jean-Michel Menard (Amos, QC). Howard went on to lose 8-2 against Jordon McDonald (Winnipeg, MB). Howard lost 8-6 to Braden Calvert (Winnipeg, MB) in their final qualifying round match. These two teams will now meet in a single elimination semi-final, with the winner advancing to the final to take on Braden Calvert for a spot at the Canadian Olympic Trials. Their all-time head-to-head as skips is 1-1. Jordon defeated Scott earlier this week at this event, while Scott defeated Jordon last March at the Curling Stadium Martensville International.
