Richard Krell wins Brantford Nissan Mens Classic


Richard Krell (Kitchener-Waterloo, ON) wins the Brantford Nissan Mens Classic, defeating Mark Kean (Woodstock, ON) 3-0 at the Brant Curling Club in Brantford, Canada. Krell with Evan Lilly at third, Jonah Mondloch and Robert Currie on the front end take home the $5,000CDN first place cheque along with 24.744 world ranking points, while Kean receives $3,000CDN and 19.442 world ranking points for their second place finish.

Starting with hammer, Krell blanked the first 2 ends, got on the board scoring 1 in the third end. After 2 more blank ends, Krell stole the sixth end then stole one more in the 8th end for the 3-0 win.

In the semifinals, Krell defeated John Willsey (Ottawa, ON) 7-1 and Kean defeated Wayne Tuck Jr. (Brantford, ON) 5-4 in an extra end. Tuck Jr. and Willsey earned $2,000CDN and 15.023 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Krell defeated Brent Ross (Harriston, ON) 6-2, Kean defeated Codey Maus (London, ON) 9-6, while Tuck Jr. defeated Dayna Deruelle (Kingston, ON) 10-6 and Willsey defeated Jordan Chandler (Sudbury, ON) 5-3. Deruelle, Chandler, Maus and Ross earned $1,000CDN along with 10.605 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes.

Krell went 3-0 in the 24 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Krell defeated Ryan Sayer (New Liskeard, ON) 7-2, won against Jon Solberg (Whiteshorse, YK) 5-0, and Deruelle 5-2 in the A-Qualifier to advance to the playoffs.
