![]() Minnesota's John Shuster defeated Wisconsin's Carson McMullin to advance to a 3-0 record at the Dale's St. Paul Cashspiel in St. Paul, Minnesota. By Connor Simms, #16 World-Ranked John Shuster, with Christopher Plys at third, Colin Hufman and Matt Hamilton on the front end, is on a roll this season. They have already played in five events this season. They won the USA Pan Continental qualifier back in early August. Then they lost in the semi-final of the Euro Super Series, but won the Oslo Cup in Norway. Most recently, they lost in the final to Alberta's Brad Jacobs at the ATB Okotoks Classic and in the semi-final to Minnesota's Daniel Casper at the AMJ Masters Tier 2. This week, the team is participating in Dale's St. Paul Cashspiel. John won the event in 2012. Colin secured a win in 2019 with Rich Ruohonen, and Christopher won in 2016 with Heath McCormick. In their third game, they took on Wisconsin's Carson McMullin. McMullin won the opening game, drawing to the button for the hammer. McMullin opened the scoring with three points in the first end. The teams then traded deuces in the second and third ends. Shuster took the lead with four points in the fourth end. After a blank in the fifth end, Shuster stole two in the sixth. McMullin got one in the seventh, but was unable to steal two in the eighth, giving Shuster an 8-6 victory. In their opening game, they defeated Minnesota's William Jordan 7-4. They then defeated Wisconsin's Austin Kadlec 5-3. In their final round robin game, they will face Michigan's Benjamin Levy at 4:30 pm Central Time (CT).
