Masters Finals Rematch: Jacobs vs Whyte
![]() Manitoba's Matt Dunstone is set to face Scotland's Ross Whyte in the final at the AMJ Masters in London, Ontario. By Connor Simms, #5 World-Ranked Matt Dunstone, with Colton Lott at third, E.J. Harnden and Ryan Harnden on the front end, look to win their first slam title as a team. Dunstone went 3-1 through the round robin. In their opening game, they defeated Minnesota's Korey Dropkin 6-4, then won 6-3 against Magnus Ramfjell. They then won 7-3 over Saskatchewan's Mike McEwen.. In their final round robin match, they lost 8-6 to Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller. In the quarter-finals, Dunstone defeated Ramfjell 6-3. This set up a Brier final rematch with Alberta's Brad Jacobs. In the first end, Dunstone was forced to their single point. After a blank in the second end, Jacobs scored three points in the third. Dunstone was forced again to their single in the fourth. Dunstone then stole one in the fourth to tie the game at three. Jacobs was then forced to a hit and stick for their single point. Dunsotne then took the lead with a two in the seventh. Jacobs took one in the eighth to force the extra end. Dunstone ultimately scored their single in the extra to grab a 6-5 victory. #4 World-Ranked Ross Whyte, with Robin Brydone at third, Craig Waddell and Euan Kyle on the front end, are looking to defend their Masters title this week. Whyte finished 4-0 in the round robin. In their opening game, Whyte defeated Epping 6-2. They then went on to win 9-2 against Kleiter and 6-1 against Jacobs. In their final round robin match, Whyte defeated Switzerland's Marco Hoesli. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller 6-5. This set up a match with country rival Bruce Mouat. In the first end, Whyte got their deuce. After a blank in the second end, Mouat was forced to their single in the third. Whyte responded with two more in the fourth. Moaut scored a big three points in the fifth to tie the game at 4. After a blank in the sixth end, Moaut stole one in the seventh end. Whyte was able to get their deuce in the eighth to win 6-5 and book their spot in the final. This set up the final between Whyte and Dunstone. Last season, these two teams faced off three times. Whyte holds a 2-1 record in those three games, with wins at the WFG Masters and the AMJ Shorty Jenkins Classic. Dunstone defeated WHyte at the Astec Safety Challenge. Dunstone holds the advantage all-time with a 10-6 record. Both skips are looking to claim their second career grand slam of curling titles. Both of which came at the Masters. Dunstone won in 2019, while Whyte is the defending champion of this event. Whyte will start the game with the hammer due to their perfect round robin record.
