![]() British Columbia's Kayla MacMillan (Photo: Curling Canada) defeated Manitoba's Kate Cameron to advance to the semi-finals at the AMJ Masters Tier 2 event in London, Ontario. By Connor Simms, #26 World-Ranked Kayla MacMillan, with Brittany Tran at third, Lindsay Dubue, Sarah Loken and Lauren Lenentine on the front end, are off to an impressive start to the season. Although they missed the playoffs in the last two events, Macmillan opened their season with a win at the Asham IceBreaker Challenge in Morris, Manitoba. They are currently playing in the AMJ Masters Tier 2 event at the St. Thomas Curling Club. Last season, they played in the Tier 2 event at the HearingLife Tour Challenge, where they finished as quarter-finalists. MacMillan finished 3-1 in the 16-team qualifying round. In their opening game, MacMillan lost 7-5 to Manitoba's Kate Cameron, then responded with a 7-1 win over Corryn Brown (Kamloops, BC). MacMillan won 7-2 against Delaney Strouse (Traverse City, MI), then won 8-3 against Emma Artichuk (Waterloo, ON) in their final qualifying round match. This set up a quarterfinal rematch with Cameron. Cameron won the opening draw to the button for the hammer. Cameron scored their single point in the first end. MacMillan capitalized with a deuce in the second end. Cameron was forced to their single point again in the third end. Cameron then responded with a steal of one in the fourth end. The second half was all MacMillan as they got their single in the fifth, then responded with a steal of one and a steal of two. Ultimately, they ran Cameron out of stones in the eighth end, grabbing the 6-3 victory. MacMillan will now play Scotland's Rebecca Morrison in the semi-final tonight at 7:30 pm Eastern Time (ET). In the other semi-final, Japan's Ikue Kitazawa will face Denmark's Madeline Dupont. On the men's side, Scotland's Kye Waddell will face Alberta's Kevin Koe. In the other semi-final, it will be a battle of the USA as John Shuster will face Daniel Casper.
